The way Parkland workers have been treated by corporate MultiCare is wrong. Getting media attention involved puts additional pressure on the company to come to the table and bargain in good faith.
Your solidarity on the picket line is vital for the company to feel pressure. Register for your time here.
Check out this video from the last Pierce County Labor Council meeting. They are ready and excited to support Parkland workers in any way.
After months of shortening and cancelling sessions altogether, MultiCare's corporate team came to the table for the first several sessions in the new year. But at our last session, the corporate team stayed at the table for a TOTAL of 32 minutes, during which they doubled down on their low-ball wage offer.
The next bargaining session is May 9th. The cause of the lengthy gap is corporate’s scheduling requests, not ours. We’ve proposed weekly bargaining sessions, but corporate has refused, even canceling our Zoom bargaining session scheduled for April 16.
Here are all the Union and Company proposals made in bargaining. This is an overview of all proposals. Please contact your bargaining committee for further questions.

History:
Overview: This article outlines your union membership. MutliCare's anti-union proposal would weaken your union, your ability to enforce the contract, and the strength of your future contracts. An open shop allows workers to opt out of supporting the union, even though the union still represents them. This weakens union power by reducing resources, dividing the workforce, and making it harder to bargain strong contracts. In the long run, it undermines solidarity. This would give MultiCare more leverage and union members less.

History:
Overview: Our proposal would give current members a fair chance to regain work hours if their schedules were cut due to workforce changes. Before offering an open position to the public, MultiCare would first be obligated to give affected employees the option to take positions that offers more hours— even if it doesn’t completely restore the employee's original position. This helps keep jobs within our team and supports those impacted by hour reductions.

An Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) is a complaint filed against an employer or union when an employee's rights have allegedly been violated under the NLRA.
Several ULPs have been filed against MultiCare because of their alleged action at Parkland. The ULP process is lengthy, membership solidarity is vital to hold corporate accountable.
MultiCare sent out an email to employees where they admitted to purposely delaying negotiations to intentionally frustrate workers. Although they removed the email update, the law requires them to issue an apology and post a notice affirming they will not do it again, as their actions violate employees' legal right to unionize and bargain in good faith.

On February 6, MultiCare's corporate team proposed the wage table outlined here. MultiCare's wage offer would keep your wages lower than all other OCEDs.
We know this isn’t MultiCare’s best offer and that it fails to respect your experience and skills—but Parkland workers have the power to fight for better.
